WPI declares 11 candidates, SDPI 3 in West Bengal

Kolkata: Welfare Party of India and Social Democratic Party of India have declared their candidates to contest in the Parliamentary elections in West Bengal. WPI plans to contest in 11 constituencies, while the SDPI is fielding 3 candidates in the state.

All India Secretary of WPI, S Q R Iliyas announced in a press conference at Kolkata Press Club on 8th March, 2014 that his party will field 18 candidates in the coming Loksabha Elections, but declared the 11 names of candidates. Names of seven more candidates would be declared on a late date.

The party is in negotiation with other ‘Muslim’ political parties and regional parties for seat sharing alliance. He hinted that the WPI may enter into some sort of seat alliance with JD(U) and SDPI in the state.

Out of 11 candidates two are non-Muslims. The following 11 candidates of WPI are Dr Raisuddin (Jangipur), Dr Nurul Islam Majidi (Malda North), Advocate Pijus Barman (Coochbehar, Abdul Aziz (Birbhum), Sri Mansa Sen (Srirampur), Prof Dr Sk Abdus Samad (Diamond Harbour), Advocate Rafiqul Islam (Barasat), Md Hesamuddin (Kolkata South), Mirza Nurul Hassan (Tamluk), Maulana Abdul Wahab Khilji (Murshidabad), Sahajadi Parvin (Howrah).

Among the WPI candidates Dr Raisuddin contested the bye-election in Jangipur and was on the 4th position.

SDPI: West Bengal Election observer of SDPI M K Faizi also announced in a press conference few days back at the Kolkata Press club that at least in five seats SDPI will be contesting in the Loksabha Election. So far they have declared the names of three candidates. Three candidates of SDPI are Taidul Islam (Jangipur), Khairul Anam (Berhampur), Imtiaz Ahmed Molla (Malda South).

Among them Taidul Islam too contested the bye-Election at Jangipur. State President of SDPI Islam said that they are in talks with various regional and national parties.
