Khartoum: At least seven people were killed and many others injured in an attack by rebel groups against Maleet area in Sudan’s North Darfur state, Sudan’s Ashrouq net reported Friday.
“Forces belonging to the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA)/Minni Minnawi faction and the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) pulled out from Maleet town after clashes on Friday. The attack left seven people dead and many others injured,” Xinhua quoted Ashrouq net as saying.
Ashrouq quoted sources as saying that the attackers pulled out from the town at 2 a.m. after confiscating oil and food materials from the town’s market.
On Thursday, Darfur rebel groups attacked Maleet town in North Darfur state and targeted the positions of the Sudanese regular forces on the outskirts of the town.
Sudan’s Darfur region has been witnessing escalating tribal violence and armed clashes between the Sudanese army and armed groups in the region.
The violence is concentrated mainly in the South and North Darfur states, which are witnessing almost daily clashes between the Sudanese army and the rebel SLA/Minni Minnawi faction.
