Yusuf Sani, a spokesperson for the road safety commission in Yobe, said 55 people were killed in two separate crashes on the Gashua-Garin Alkali and Damaturu-Potiskum roads in the state.

He said 20 passengers of a bus were killed when the vehicle collided with a truck on the Gashua-Garin Alkali road. In another accident, 35 people died when three light vehicles collided on the Damaturu-Potiskum road.

In southwest Oyo State, 10 occupants of a mini-bus lost their lives in a crash along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The dead were burnt beyond recognition, Tanya Adeoye, a commander with the road commission told the media Monday.

Adeoye said four persons survived the crash which involved two trucks and one 18-seater Toyota Hiace commercial bus.

Road officials attributed the accidents to speeding and dangerous driving.
