CPI (M) also expressed their concern after the arrest of six forest department personnel who were suspected to be involved in the carnage.

The CPI (M) leaders who visited the violence affected area did not rule out the involvement of government in the incident. “It’s a very serious allegation. Several vital evidence including mobile phones and identity cards have been found from the spot. So, we cannot rule out the involvement of government in the incident. Whoever it is should be punished after investigation,” Uddhav Barman state secretary of CPI (M).

The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has also issued a notice to state government to start an inquiry into the allegations against six forest department personnel who were suspected to be involved in the BTAD carnage. AHRC has directed the state government to submit its report within 45 days of receipt of the notice.

“The commission has registered a suo motu case as there were allegations against the forest personnel, including a forest ranger, for being directly involved in the killing of innocent people using department’s weapons. They have joined hands with some militant groups in the BTAD region,” an AHRC statement said.

Assam police on Sunday had arrested six forest volunteers, including a forest ranger Amiya Brahma of the Manas National Park, following the FIRs lodged by the villagers.
The locals stated that that when villagers rushed to the forest beat office in Baksa district’s Khagrabari for safety on Friday, the forest personnel fired at them and set some of their houses afire.

Besides, the CPI (M) also demanded that a high level judicial inquiry should be conducted along with the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

“The state government should take immediate measures to bring normalcy in the region with the involvement of representatives of every section of society. Security measures should be updated and the government should concentrate on the development of roads and communication system,” Barman said.
