New Delhi : BJP’s prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi will get Special Protection Group (SPG) cover when he is formally announced the BJP’s parliamentary party leader Tuesday, an official source here said.
As of now, Modi enjoy Z-plus security cover with over 50 Gujarat policemen besides National Security Guard commandos. They are being assisted by Delhi Police during his movement in the national capital.
A source from the SPG told IANS that Modi will be given SPG commandos Tuesday soon after he is officially announced leader of BJP’s parliamentary party, which is scheduled to meet Tuesday for the purpose.
Due to a major threat perception, Modi will enjoy SPG cover around his cavalcade, home and office. Intelligence agencies recently said Modi faces a terror threat.
Currently, SPG cover is being given to outgoing prime minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
