Dhaka : Electricity supply resumed in Bangladesh, nearly 10 hours after the breakdown of the national grid.
Masum-Al-Beruni, managing director of Power Grid Company of Bangladesh, said power supplies were restored in parts of Dhaka and all other divisional cities, including Chittagong, Saturday night, Xinhua reported.
Al-Beruni expressed hope that there will not be any further disruption.
Sources said that electricity generation was disrupted due to the national grid failure after the Bangladesh-India power interconnection line developed technical snag and caused countrywide blackout around 11.30 a.m. Saturday.
The India-Bangladesh power line was used for transmission of 450 MW power.
Some power plants later resumed generation, resulting in restoration of electricity supply to some areas. But the supply was disrupted again in the afternoon.
Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu said that a committee has been formed to investigate the countrywide power failure and submit a report in three days.
