Dhaka : Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami Monday called for a strike Wednesday after the Supreme Court upheld the death verdict for its leader Mohammad Kamaruzzaman.
The Jamaat has called for a 48-hour shutdown starting 6.00 a.m Wednesday until 6.00 a.m Friday, bdnews 24 reported.
The Jamaat has, however, reduced Monday’s 24-hour strike by 12 hours in view of Muharram.
The strike will now end at 6.00 p.m Monday instead of 6.00 a.m Tuesday.
There is a public holiday Tuesday.
Earlier, the party had called for a 24-hour strike for Thursday after Jamaat’s executive council member Mir Quasem Ali was sentenced to death for 1971 war crimes Sunday.
