Gurgaon : The Haryana Police Monday launched WhatsApp messenger service here as part of the Citizen Connect initiative.
Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal said: “This new service will strengthen Gurgaon Police’s existing social presence across Facebook and Twitter in an attempt to have a direct and more transparent connect with its residents.”
Police believe that the number of WhatsApp users are much more than people using Facebook or Twitter, so it will help to directly connect with more people.
He said: “By saving the number +91-8586976050 on their smartphones, residents can send messages, upload pictures and videos through WhatsApp to report corruption across government departments, harassment by any government officer, cases of crime and illegal activities.”
Mittal added: “Traffic-related complaints, including cases of overcharging or misbehaviour by auto drivers, or any other problems can be sent. Residents can send details (issue, place, date and time, etc.) with a photograph or short video clip along with their personal details (name, address, contact number).”
A Gurgaon Police team will review all incoming messages and ensure prompt action against serious complaints especially cases of corruption reported with evidence. Wherever necessary, details of the complainant will be kept confidential.
