New Delhi : At least 18 policemen were injured when a truck they were travelling in overturned Tuesday afternoon when its brakes failed, police said.
The accident occurred in south Delhi’s Hauz Khas area around 2.15 p.m. when the vehicle carrying 22 policemen, posted at South Campus police station, overturned as the driver tried to apply brakes at a turning.
All the 18 injured policemen were admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre where two are still undergoing treatment while others were discharged after first aid.
The policemen were heading towards Lodhi Colony police station for their duty at Karbala in south Delhi in view of a Muharram procession.
In another incident, a BPO employee was killed and three persons, including the driver, were critically injured after the car they were travelling in rammed into a goods carrier in south Delhi’s Nehru Place area on the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday.
The car was coming from Noida and heading towards south Delhi when the accident occurred near Nehru place bus stand around 2 a.m.
According to Sunil, the driver of the car, he lost the control over his vehicle in a bid to save a man crossing the road.
A police team along with fire department officials reached the spot after a passer-by made a call about the accident.
All four injured were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre where one of the injured was declared dead on arrival.
Police identified the dead man as Mahesh, 21, a resident of Munirka, and the injured as Sachin, 25, and Saurabh, 22.
