Enabling tech environment need of the hour: Prasad

New Delhi : Communication and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad Wednesday said Indians are adept at using technology but the need of the hour is to create an enabling environment for them.

“India is a unique place where rocket science and “jugad” technology can co-exist. Indians are adept at using technology; the need of the hour is to create an enabling environment for them,” the minister said while addressing industry members at the India Economic Summit.

Prasad emphasised that the Mission of Digital India is not only for the central government to implement but all state governments and private players are important stakeholders in this.

The prime minister in his Independence Day address to the nation Aug 15 envisaged a Rs.1 lakh crore Digital India project to transform the country into a digitally empowered and connected knowledge economy.

He appealed to industry members to make this programme outcome oriented. Private players can play an important role in creating a decentralized distribution network, he said.

The minister also harped on the importance of digital literacy in the country.

Talking about the Make in India campaign of the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party government, Prasad said the government is not only asking companies to manufacture for India, it is also asking companies to manufacture in India and export to other destinations globally.
