Lucknow : The winter session of the Uttar Pradesh assembly begins Friday. The opposition is likely to question the government over not enhancing the minimum support price for sugarcane, law and order and power crisis.
At an all-party meeting convened by Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey, party leaders assured the chair that the opposition of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Congress would play a constructive role in the House.
The session will run between Nov 14 and 21.
The state government will present the supplementary budget Nov 17. On demand of the Congress, the House will only have the question hour on the first day Friday, adjourning on occasion of Children’s Day – birthday of India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav late Thursday chaired a meeting of Samajwadi Party (SP) legislators to prepare the party for the opposition’s criticism, a leader told IANS.
Officials have been asked to come prepared for the session.
Leader of Opposition and senior BSP leader Swamy Prasad Maurya told IANS that they will raise problems faced by people in the “most appropriate manner”.
The opposition parties have also lashed out at the state government for calling a brief session.
However, sources in the ruling party told IANS that SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had asked the chief minister to extend the session and an announcement is likely to come during the session.
