Tendulkar in Andhra to visit adopted village

Nellore (Andhra Pradesh) : Rajya Sabha member and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar arrived at the Krishnapatnam port near here Saturday evening, on his way to a village which he has decided to adopt.

Tendulkar was accorded a warm welcome by the port officials. He also received a guard of honour by the probationers at the Krishnapatnam Port Security Academy.

Sporting a pink T-shirt and blue jeans, the cricketing icon planted a tree. A huge number of port employees and their children turned up to catch a glimpse of the ‘Little Master’.

After the night-halt at the port, Tendulkar will proceed to Puttamraju Kandrika, a sleepy village near here, and participate in various programmes Sunday.

This will be his first visit to the village after his announcement to adopt it under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna. He plans to undertake various development work in the village at a cost of Rs.2.79 crore under his MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds.

Tendulkar will interact with farmers, children and youth in the village, 18 km from Gudur town.
