Ranchi : The Congress in Jharkhand Friday alleged that six rallies of the party were cancelled due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state during the day.
“For the first time in history, air traffic was stopped a day before the prime minister’s rally. Four rallies of the Congress were scheduled Thursday and two on Friday,” former union minister and Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay told reporters here.
Congress leaders Raj Babbar, Mohd. Azharuddin and others were scheduled to address rallies. As air traffic was stopped, the rallies were cancelled, he said.
Polling for the 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand will be held in five phases – Nov 25, Dec 2, 9, 14 and 20.
Sahay urged the Election Commission to take note of the cancellations.
“We will take the issue to the Election Commission so that in future such things are not repeated. The security of the prime minister should be addressed but rallies of other parties should not be affected,” he said.
