New Delhi : Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer Anoop Mishra has been appointed as the new secretary-general of the Lok Sabha.
Mishra, a 1978 batch officer, will have the rank and status of the cabinet secretary. His appointment would take effect from Dec 1, an official release said here.
An accomplished civil servant, Mishra has held several important positions at both the central and in the Uttar Pradesh government.
He was the chief secretary, Uttar Pradesh for one year with the overall responsibility of the state administration, superintendence of law and order and developmental and infrastructure schemes in the state.
In the central government, he held, among others, the position of joint secretary, cabinet secretariat, with the responsibility of the strategic ministries like home, defence, external affairs, atomic energy and space.
Mishra also worked as the minister (economic) at Indian embassy in Washington for three years where he was responsible for bilateral economic relations and coordination with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
