New Delhi : Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung Friday met the representatives of those affected in the demolitions in south Delhi and assured them of providing immediate relief.
He assured the residents of the Rangpuri Pahari slum that all immediate aid shall be provided to them and the government will consider providing long term solutions to their problems, said a statement.
On Thursday, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi visited the slum in Vasant Kunj of south Delhi, where 900 housing units were razed to the ground in the government’s demolition drive.
Jung issued directions to the chief secretary and concerned officials to provide immediate succour to those affected in the demolitions.
A representative from the Lt. Governor’s office visited the site Thursday night to oversee the assistance being provided.
According to the reports submitted to the Lt. Governor, tents were being erected on site to provide shelter to those affected.
Jung issued directions to the officials that the elderly, women and children be provided shelter first.
