Cleanliness drive: Each village to get Rs. 20 lakh yearly

New Delhi : Rural Development Minister Nitin Gadkari announced Thursday that Rs. 20 lakh will be given to every village per annum to achieve the goal of Clean India by Oct 2, 2019.

Gadkari made the announcement while talking to media here after administering the cleanliness pledge to all the officers and staff of his ministries.

He also wielded broom in the rural development ministry office premises and cleaned up garbage.

The government has already announced it would spend over Rs.1,34,000 crore on building about 11.11 crore toilets in the country in the next five years, ministry officials said.

Earlier, speaking at the India Gate lawns, Gadkari said that cleanliness mission should not only remain a government campaign but this must be converted into a mass movement.

He also underlined that technology will be used on a large scale to convert waste into wealth in rural India in the form of bio-fertilizer and different types of energy.
