Delhi building bye-laws to be simplified: Government

New Delhi : The central government Tuesday decided to simplify the complex rules for obtaining sanctions for construction of buildings in the national capital and invited public suggestions on the draft policy it has prepared.

Under the existing building bye-laws, sanctions for building construction take far longer than the stipulated 60 days owing to the “complex procedures, documentations, rules and their open ended interpretation”.

The urban development ministry has decided to put in public domain the proposed Unified Building Bye-laws which seek to address these issues so that sanctions are issued quickly, according to a statement by the ministry issued Tuesday.

The ministry said it wants to notify the final Unified Building Bye-laws within three months.

The draft policy would be available on the websites of the ministry, the Delhi Development Authority and Delhi Urban Arts Commission where people can comment and give their suggestions over the next two weeks.

Thereafter, a consultative workshop will be organized involving all stakeholders including experts, architects and citizen bodies.

Suggestions received therein would be incorporated in the Draft Unified Bye-laws which would be examined by an expert committee.
