Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao Thursday announced an ex-gratia of Rs.5 lakh for the family of a 11-year-old boy allegedly burnt alive by military men.
The chief minister said a comprehensive probe will be ordered into the incident.
Excise Minister Padma Rao on behalf of the government consoled the family of Sheikh Mustafauddin.
The boy was found with critical burn injuries in the army garrison at Mehdipatnam Wednesday. He told a magistrate in his dying declaration that army men set him ablaze. The boy succumbed at a hospital Thursday morning.
An autopsy was conducted on the body. The deceased, student of a madarsa and resident of a residential area adjacent to the garrison, was buried amid tight security. Police had made elaborate security arrangements around the garrison.
Police booked a case of murder against unidentified army men and are investigating. However, the army authorities have denied involvement of any army man in the incident and offered to cooperate with police in the investigations.
Meanwhile, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has announced an ex-gratia of Rs.2 lakh.
According to Greater Hyderabad Mayor Majid Hussain, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who is campaigning in Maharashtra, spoke to the chief minister over phone and demanded speedy investigations.
