No discrimination on basis of caste, religion: Rajnath Singh

Gurgaon : In the wake of increasing attacks on people from the northeast in other parts of India, union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Thursday said he disapproved of any form of discrimination on the basis of caste, creed and religion.

“There should be no discrimination against anyone in our country on the basis of caste, religion, creed or sect,” he said in a tweet.

His comment came after two youths from Nagaland were assaulted by a gang of seven in the Sikanderpur area of Gurgaon. Similarly, a student from Manipur was beaten up by a group of people in Bangalore Wednesday for not speaking in Kannada.

The home minister said he has spoken to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah about the incident.

“The Karnataka CM informed me that police responded quickly and arrested all those who were involved in attacking the NE students,” Rajnath Singh said.
