New Delhi : Delhi Police will launch a special training session for its personnel to deal with criminals while on duty, Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi said here Monday.
“Our men are well trained to deal with the criminals. But they need more refreshed training,” Bassi told reporters at police headquarters here.
The district police heads have been asked to organise special training sessions from time-to-time, the police commissioner said.
The announcement follows recent incidents of police personnel being attacked while on duty.
A Delhi Police constable was killed and another sustained serious injuries Oct 13 when some unidentified men fired at them in west Delhi’s Vijay Vihar area when the two were on patrol.
Oct 11, two policemen had a providential escape after some men opened fire at them in Connaught Place, while a 26-year-old constable was shot dead Sep 27 by two people in east Delhi’s Jafrabad area.
Oct 16, two police constables were beaten up by five drunken men in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area when the policemen objected to their drinking in a public place.
Besides, Delhi Police have also assured the people from the northeast about their safety and security.
“All necessary steps have been taken in the direction of security of the people from northeast living in the capital. We always take immediate action in the matter related to people from northeast,” said Bassi.
To a question about a Mizoram girl’s death, Bassi said investigations were on and police were waiting for the autopsy report.
Bassi also said Delhi Police will launch an online facility for the people to register their complaints about motor vehicle theft.
“We are working on it. The people will soon avail the facility of registering the FIR (first information report) online by a simple click. They need not go to police stations,” said the commissioner.
