New Delhi : The NHRC has sought a report within six weeks from the Director General of Police, Bihar and Commissioner, Delhi Police in a matter involving sexual harassment of a girl in Bihar, a statement said Tuesday.
According to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the victim was sexually exploited by the employees of a school in Vaishali district of Bihar while her father was falsely implicated by Delhi Police in a criminal case.
In addition, the girl’s mother too was threatened by the police and was forced to beg for food to feed her two daughters.
The commission has also asked its Director General (Investigation) to depute a team of officers to probe the matter.
“The victim’s mother, in her complaint to the commission, had alleged that at the instance of the rape accused, her husband (victim’s father) was falsely implicated by Delhi Police and is lodged in Tihar Jail,” said the NHRC, adding that the accused were involved in flesh trade.
The woman said she was being harassed by both Delhi and Bihar Police.
“We have found that the allegations of the complainant appeared to have merit, given the ever-changing story of the police investigation. Initially, even after registering an FIR on the complaint of the victim’s father, the police did not take any appropriate action,” said D. Murugesan, member, NHRC.
“The possibility of undue influence on the victim and her family to compromise the matter also cannot be ruled out,” he said, adding that the petitioner had not only faced trauma in Bihar but also in Delhi.
“The allegations, if found true, raise a serious issue of continuous issue of violation of human rights of the rape victim and her parents.”
