Kolkata : Five more people were arrested Sunday for attacking a police team Friday that left three cops injured in West Bengal’s Birbhum district.
With this, the total number of arrests has gone up to 10.
Inspector General of Police (Western Zone) Siddh Nath Gupta said: “We have arrested five more people in this connection. Two of them have been remanded in police custody and three sent to judicial custody.”
Police Saturday arrested five people who were remanded in judicial custody till Oct 14.
The attack took place when a team led by Panrui police station chief Prasenjit Dutta raided a block health centre in the area where crude bombs were stored.
Despite being attacked with bombs, sticks and bricks, police seized several plastic drums full of crude bombs and several muskets from the health centre.
The attack came over a month after workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress allegedly roughed up an officer inside the Bolpur police station in the district.
The attack on the police team has acquired political colour with the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Trinamool accusing each other for the incident.
