Egypt to try Morsi for leaking security papers to Qatar

Cairo: Ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, along with 10 others, will face trial over leaking security documents to Qatar, media reported Saturday.

The former president is facing charges of handing national security files to the Qatari intelligence and Doha-based Al Jazeera news channel under orders from the international organisation of the Muslim Brotherhood, MENA news agency reported.

Qatar is a key ally of the Muslim Brotherhood that was designated as a terrorist organisation by the Egyptian government in December last year.

After his ouster from the country’s top post in July last year, Morsi is now facing trial in three other cases – for inciting deadly violence against protesters, conspiring with foreign organisations and involvement in a mass prison escape in the 2011 revolt that led to the ouster of strongman Hosni Mubarak.
