UAE aid for Jammu & Kashmir flood victims

Abu Dhabi : Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE ruler’s representative in the country’s Western Region and chairman of Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), has ordered the provision of urgent humanitarian assistance to the victims of the floods, which hit India recently.

He ordered the implementation of humanitarian programme to meet the basic needs and improve lives of people affected by the floods in India’s Jammu and Kashmir state, it was reported Monday.

Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, secretary-general of the ERC affirmed that Sheikh Hamdan’s directives come in the light of his keenness to alleviate the suffering of the victims and improve living conditions there, indicating that Sheikh Hamdan is closely following the repercussions of floods in India.

He added that the ERC would work to ensure delivery of humanitarian aid to the victims from the local market.

The UAE is home to around two million expatriate Indians.
