Swachhata Abhiyan started in Jamia

Significantly, the Abhiyan started from the Faculty of Education which was jointly organized by the Department of Educational Studies and Department of Teacher Training and Non-Formal Education (IASE) with the latter launching the NSS Camp to mark the occasion. The Faculty of Education came into existence as the first National Laboratory of Basic Education consequent upon the resolution made in Wardha by Mahatma Gandhi to link Education with the world of work.

The Vice-Chancellor in his presidential remarks stressed the need to make cleanliness as an integral part of our life and said that it was an institution’s responsibility to sensitize the community in the vicinity being part of this mission. He wished Jamia to be a model institution to lead in every sphere of education including the sanitation. He wanted Jamia to be a plastic-free zone and suggested that students should be the torch-bearers in this mission.

The Registrar, JMI in his address put the emphasis on making campus litter free and for this all concerned should consider it as their collective responsibility to pick up the wrappers and litter only to be put into the bin. He asked the students to take a pledge for the same. In the inaugural function, Jamia Tarana, the NSS song and Swachhata Geet were sung by a group of students.

To make the Abhiyan more eventful, both the departments have planned out a number of programmes such as Puppet Shows, Sanitation Survey of the neighbouring schools and the community, Slogan Competition, Screening of Ted Talk, Nukkad Natak, A Panel Discussion on Environment and Swachhata March / Rally and a plethora of co-curricular activities are to be organized till 2nd October, 2014. The function ended with a formal vote of thanks extended by Prof. Shoeb Abdullah, the Head, IASE.
