Morsi trial postponed for security reasons

Cairo : A court in Egypt Monday decided to postpone until Oct 14 the trial of ousted president Mohamed Morsi and 35 leaders of the banned Muslim Brotherhood (MB) on charges of spying.

The trial was postponed as the authorities failed to bring Morsi to the court due to security reasons, state-run MENA news agency reported.

Morsi and the 35 other Brotherhood figures are facing charges of collaborating with foreign organisations to commit acts of terrorism in Egypt, revealing defence secrets to a foreign country and funding terrorist groups.

Since the military-led removal of Morsi in July 2013, a massive security crackdown on Morsi supporters has left more than 1,000 dead while thousands of others were arrested.
