Aligarh: The Samajwadi Party led government has undertaken more initiatives in Uttar Pradesh in the past three years than any previous governments in past, feels Zafaryab Jilani, Additional Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh.

Jilani was responding to a letter by Mohammad Perwez Siddiqui, a student of AMU and president of Sir Syed Minority Foundation of India.

Siddiqui had written a letter to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, where he had alleged that the UP government is not acting on allegations of illegal encroachment of land belonging to the AMU and had reminded the Akhilesh Yadav-led government that they have not fulfilled the promises made by SP in their manifesto before the Assembly election.

While responding to the letter, Jilani said that the complainant has not specified any particular University land in the memorandum, alleged to be encroached and hence “there arises no question of any action being taken” by the state government, adding that the “sweeping allegations” made by Siddiqui “against the ‘local Samajwadi Party leaders’ are also irresponsible and malign a particular party.”

Refuting the second allegation that the SP government has done nothing for the minorities, Jilani said in the letter: “It is totally incorrect and false allegation,” and added, “The three year regime of this government has vindicated that no other government of the state in Uttar Pradesh had undertaken so many welfare schemes for minorities as have been pursued by the present government.”

Jilani also challenged the complainant for detail discussion on the subject as and when he wishes to do so. He ended the letter advising Siddiqui, “I hope and trust that in future you will avoid making such general remarks and would prefer to give some specific instances in support of any demand.”

Siddiqui, however, is not ready to sit back. He has responded to the letter saying that he has evidence in connection with every allegation he made. “I am ready to discuss the same with the CM, if he is willing to,” he said.

He also reminded Jilani that in its manifesto, SP had promised reservations in jobs for the Muslims, but in three years, that has remained a mere promise. “In fact, in last three years, UP has seen a spate of communal riots which shows the failure of state administration and non-seriousness of the government towards Muslims.”

“The Samjwadi Party government has come under severe criticisms from all quarters for its inept handling of the series of communal riots, biggest being the September 2013 riots in Muzaffarnagar-Shamli. Victims alleged discrimination in distribution of compensation and in fact, only on Saturday, April 4, Malakpura camp was forcibly evicted,” the student activist said.

“Besides false promise of reservation, the Samajwadi Party had also promised to release Muslim youth languishing in jails for years without proper trial in alleged terror cases, but the government has failed to even fast track the terror cases,” Siddiqui said and reiterated, “I am ready to debate on any of these points.”
