She escaped unharmed but several vehicles in her motorcade were damaged.

Her security staff claimed that bullets were fired at Khaleda’s vehicle but it could not be verified.

A senior police official said Awami League’s Dhaka Metropolitan Ward 26 unit chief Jahirul Haq filed the complaint on Monday night.

The official said Khaleda’s security officials and party activists were blamed in the complaint for the mayhem. They have been accused of trying to kill people and holding an illegal rally, among others.

The BNP called a day-long shutdown on Wednesday (April 22), protesting the attack.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina dubbed the whole episode as a “drama”.
