Aligarh: The Aligarh Movement monthly magazine will bestow upon its highest award ‘Aligarh Movement Award – 2015’ on Mahbubul Hoque, chancellor of the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya and coordinator of National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI ), New Delhi, next month.
The award will be presented to Hoque by Smriti Irani, Union HRD Minister, in a glittering function at the India International Centre, Delhi on May 9, a release said here on Tuesday.

Taking inspiration from Sir Syed, Hoque has launched Aligarh Movement in distant area of Assam and Meghalaya by establishing educational institutions, said Dr Jasim Mohammad, chief editor, Aligarh Movement monthly magazine.
“Hoque is an old boy of AMU. He had founded ERD Foundation at Gawahati (Assam) and established many educational institutions such as Central IT College, Regional College of Higher Education, Central Public School, Regional Institute of Science & Technology and ERD F Junior College in north-eastern states of Assam and Meghalaya,” he said in the release.
“Hoque has also made contributions in the social reforms sector and his ERD Foundation is lending helping hands for free medical treatment to the deprived and poor sections of society and is giving scholarships to needy students. Apart of that he is engaged in looking after old and helpless women particularly widows through Khaorunnisa Memorial Women’s Endowment,” the release added.
