New Delhi : Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday that the government was working for the protection of minorities.
“I can come out with a full-fledged statement on communal incidents … so that the country knows under which government maximum attacks have taken place,” the minister said in the Lok Sabha.
Rajnath Singh said there seemed to be a “deliberate attempt” to repeatedly raise incidents of alleged communal violence anywhere in the country and in parliament.
The home minister said the government wanted to see that a sense of confidence developed in the minorities so that everyone could practise one’s faith without fear.
Following his remarks, members of some opposition parties, including the Congress and the Left, staged a walkout.
The home minister’s remarks came after Congress’s K.C. Venugopal raised the matter of rising attacks on churches and other religious places across the country.
