Publish white paper on investment in Tamil Nadu: Ramadoss

Chennai : PMK youth wing president Anbumani Ramadoss on Wednesday demanded a white paper from the Tamil Nadu government on the industries that have invested Rs.46,602 crore in the state.

In a statement issued here, Ramadoss said: “If the government honestly believes that new industries were started in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs.46,602 crore, the government should publish a white paper about where were the industries started, what types of industries were started and how many people were employed.”

The PMK leader said Industries Minister P. Thangamani recently said Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) had been inked with 33 industrialists involving an investment of Rs.31,706 crore.

The minister also said another Rs.14,896 crore investment for putting up 35 industries had been obtained through the guidance bureau of the industries ministry.

Citing Thangamani’s recent speech, the PMK leader said: “It means that a total of Rs.46,602.72 crore was invested in the last three years. 2.5 lakh people should have got direct and indirect jobs by the industries and other ventures created by these investments,” Ramadoss said.

“But there is no evidence of starting any new industry in Tamil Nadu. All the announcements remain on paper. The government appears to give such statements only to deceive people,” Ramadoss charged.

Referring to the government’s announcement on Tuesday postponing the Global Investors Meet, Ramadoss said if it was true that investors have proposed to invest Rs.23,000 crore in power sector and Rs.53,000 crore in other sectors, the correct thing would be to hold the conference and sign MoUs.
