Jaipur : Gajendra Singh, the farmer who committed suicide during an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rally in Delhi on Wednesday was cremated at his native village in Rajasthan on Thursday.
The teary-eyed people at Nangal Jhamarwara in Dausa district, shouted slogans when his last rites were being performed.
There was also sloganeering against Vasundhara Raje-led Rajasthan government and AAP.
Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, Rajasthan Congress president Sachin Pilot and other party leaders met his family and tried to console them.
Almost all the people from his village and some from the surrounding villages were there to console his family.
“We are so shocked and depressed that many of us did not even cook our food after we heard of his suicide,” said a villager.
“His father Bane Singh has been crying since he heard the news. It has become difficult for us to control him as he also fainted couple of times while crying and we had to seek help of a doctor to see him,” said Gopal Singh, Gajendra’s uncle.
“Similar condition is of his three children and his wife as they have been crying for hours now,” said Singh.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, in a statement, has expressed profound grief over Gajendra Singh’s suicide and said that the incident was very tragic.
In her condolence message, Raje prayed to the almighty to give strength to the bereaved family members to bear this huge loss and grant peace to the departed soul.
The chief minister said Rajasthan government was standing with the farmers in every circumstance and is committed to their welfare and upliftment.
She said that the state government was ceaselessly working in the interest of the farmers.
