New Delhi : Demanding the dismissal of Delhi’s Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar, who is alleged to have furnished a “fake” provisional certificate of his law degree, scores of BJP supporters staged a demonstration outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s house here on Wednesday.
The protesters held up placards and shouted slogans against Tomar and the Aam Aadmi Party government Delhi. They were led by Bharatiya Janata party’s state unit chief Satish Upadhyay.
“The Delhi government has fooled the people. A minister is holding office with a fake degree, so we have no option but to come out on the road in this heat,” Upadhyay said.
“We may also take legal recourse and if needed will also press for an FIR in this connection.”
“We are raising the issue in the people’s court and will not stop the agitation till Tomar is dismissed. This kind of anarchy cannot go on,” he added.
Tomar on Tuesday denied all allegations and refused to quit.
“My degree is 100 percent genuine. All the charges against me are baseless. I have all the documents to prove it, so I will not resign from the post,” said Tomar.
An AAP leader on Tuesday said Kejriwal has sought an explanation from Tomar on the issue and the minister met the chief minister.
The Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University in Bihar, from where Tomar claimed to have obtained his law degree, told the Delhi High Court on Monday that his provisional certificate was “not genuine” and the document “does not exist in the university’s record”.
