MP train accidents: Railway minister orders inquiry

New Delhi: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Wednesday has ordered inquiry into the twin train accident in Madhya Pradesh and announced compensation to the victims.

At least 19 people were killed in Madhya Pradesh’s Harda district when the Varanasi-bound Kamayani Express and Mumbai-bound Janata Express trains derailed and fell into the Kali Machak river around midnight on Tuesday, authorities said on Wednesday

“Enquiry ordered, Ex gratia to be paid immediately. Flooding of tracks due to very heavy downpour. Will make detailed statement to parliament,” Prabhu said in a tweet.

Prabhu also informed about the efforts being made on the spot. He said: “Local villagers, Admn r also in rescue operation. Everything that’s necessary and possible being done. Constant in touch with CM MP & Rail off.”

He said medical emergency and relief material are being rushed.

“Rushing emergency medical & other relief personnel to spot. darkness,water creating hurdles but ordered all possible help. Trying our best,” the minister tweeted.
