Pravasi Bihari Samman 2014 for Shakil Kakvi

Doha (Qatar): Shakil Ahmed Kakvi, a non-resident Bihari, will be awarded by Bihar Foundation, government of Bihar with the first ever ‘Pravasi Bihari Samman 2014’ award in Delhi.

Shakil Kakvi, who dedicatedly works for Indian community in general and for the people of Bihar origin in particular, here is the first Indian in Qatar to become the member of Qatar Scientific Club.

His project ‘Green Qatar-Clean Qatar’ was highly appreciated, he became the first Indian in entire Gulf region to get the grant of Ford Conservation in West Asia. He has established socio–cultural organization under aegis of Embassy of India to Qatar to address the issues of NRBs and to link to the Bihar Foundation, a statement said here.

His efforts have resulted in visit of business delegation from Qatar, including several students’ teams, to different parts of Bihar, which helped enhance the image of Bihar and Biharees.

In recognition of his services, Bihar Foundation, Government of Bihar will confer first ever Pravasi Bihari Samman 2014 award at Sri Ram Auditorium, New Delhi. Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar will be presenting the award to Kakvi and several others soon. As per earlier plan, Kumar was to engage with NRBs in Delhi NCR on August 1 during the award function but the programme was cancelled due to death of former President APJ Abdul Kalam.

Widely travelled, Kakvi has served at the MES Indian School in Qatar as coordinator for scientific and environmental affairs. He participated several times in United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) conferences in different parts of the world. Kakvi has keen interest in overall development of Indian students in Qatar and introduced projects such as Bharat Scouts and Guides, Jawaharlal Nehru National Science Exhibition for Children organized by NCERT and Children’s Science Congress, a project supported by Ministry of Science and Technology, in Qatar schools.

Kakvi established CBSE affiliated School, Kainat International School, Kainat Nagar at his native village Kako under Jehanabad district of Bihar to provide quality education at the door steps of the villagers.
