Govt funds Commonwealth gold-medalist shooter M Ashab to train in Italy

New Delhi: Commonwealth Games gold-medalist Mohammad Ashab is in Italy for a training. Government of India has agreed to cover 90% of the cost of the training.

The National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has sanctioned 9,128 Euros for the 14-day training that started on August 18th and will end on September 1st, 2015.

27-year old M. Ashab is a Shotgun shooter who has represented India in several World Cups and Asian Championships. He won the silver medal at Asian Junior Championship at Kuwait in 2007 beside Gold Medal in Commonwealth shooting championship held in Delhi back in 2010.

The government is also providing financial assistance to India’s only Olympic gold medalist, Abhinav Bindra. Bindra had requested for assistance from the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) for a physiotherapist and strength/conditioning specialist to help him prepare for the 2016 Olympics.

“The expenditure on account of engagement of the physiotherapist and strength/conditioning specialist will be met out of the budget of Rs. 112.5 lakh allocated to Abhinav Bindra,” said a ministry release.
