New Delhi : Renowned sarangi maestro Sabri Khan, who was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, died here following a brief illness. He was 88.
The critically acclaimed sarangi player died on Monday night, his son Kamal said.
“He died last night. He had trouble breathing when we took him to a hospital in Saket where doctors pronounced him dead. My father had some breathing problems,” Kamal told IANS.
The body of Sabri Khan will be buried on Thursday.
In appreciation of his contribution to Indian classical music, Ustad Sabri Khan had received numerous honours and awards, including the Sahitya Kala Parishad Award, UP Sangeet Natak Academy Award, National Sangeet Natak Academy Award and the prestigious Padma Shree (1992) and Padma Bhushan awards (2006).
