New Delhi : To remember the 23rd Babri Masjid Demolition Anniversary, Muslim groups across the country observed it as the ‘day of sorrow’ , even as the day passed peacefully amid tight security across the country.
The Babri Masjid Action Committee (BMAC) observed the day as ‘Yaum-e-Gham’ (day of sorrow) while VHP observed ‘shaurya divas’ (day of victory).
The16th century mosque in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh was razed to ground in broad daylight on December 6, 1992.
In Hyderabad, a bandh was called by All India Majlis-e- Ittehad-ul Muslimeen and other local outfits which went peacefully and no untoward incident was reported in the city, police said.
Protests and candle light marches were held across different parts of the country by different political parties, Muslim and civil right groups demanding punishment to all those involved in the demolition of the mosque.
