Ranchi : Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das’ ways of pulling up bureaucrats and police officers publicly have left them ‘humiliated’ and an IPS officer has sought a transfer after the chief minister scolded him.
On many occasions, Das was seen lashing out at IPS officers, bureaucrats and on Tuesday, a senior police officer, apparently upset by the chief minister’s “public humiliation”, requested a transfer, sources said.
Dhanbad Superintendent of Police Rakesh Bansal has requested the police headquarters to shift him to Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) 6 at Jamshedpur.
Bansal’s letter came just two days after he was humiliated and scolded by the chief minister at Dhanbad airport.
Chief Minister Das had reportedly said: “You are young and do work properly. There are many complaints against you. Do not lose sense in excitement.”
According to police sources, the SP has cited personal reason for seeking transfer.
On the same day (December 6), the chief minister had lost his temper thrice while attending a pre-budget interaction with the people of Dhanbad.
Das vented his spleen on as many as three people – Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar, Dhanbad Additional District Magistrate (supply) Anil Kumar, and a school teacher.
In a pre-budget meeting with people in Dhanbad on Sunday, the chief minister angrily told Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar to leave the room.
He was upset because Kumar – who was seated near Das – was talking on his mobile phone, while the chief minister was listening to the people. Also present in the meeting was Lok Sabha MP from Dhanbad P.N. Singh.
Das lost his cool for the second time in the same meeting as Dhanbad Additional District Magistrate (Supply) Anil Kumar Singh came close to him on stage when he was delivering speech. He was so angered that he directed the officials to suspend the ADM.
The chief minister lost his temper again when a school teacher was making a suggestion.
“Stick to the point,” Das interrupted the teacher.
As the teacher continued in a manner, not to Das’s liking, he demanded that the mike be taken away from the teacher.
According to sources, the IAS and IPS officers of Jharkhand are scared of being humiliated by the chief minister.
“He can scold or humiliate on trifle issues,” an IPS officer posted as an SP told IANS.
The chief minister, on a regular basis, scolds Ranchi SSP Prabhat Kumar and Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar in Jan Samvad programme held on the last Tuesday of every month.
On Saturday (December 5), the chief minister, while laying foundation stone of press club in Ranchi said: “After independence, journalism has become business.”
He also advised the media to “work as mission and not run after advertisement”.
