Trinamool ‘hatao’, Bengal ‘bachao’: CPI-M

Kolkata : Upping the ante against the Mamata Banerjee government for bringing “unprecedented” anarchy and corruption in West Bengal, the CPI-M on Saturday said it will intensify its movement to uproot the Trinamool Congress from power.

Ahead of the 2016 assembly polls, the Communist Party of India-Marxist will be holding its organisational plenum from December 27 to 31 which will begin with a massive rally at the Brigade Parade ground.

Addressing media persons here on Saturday, CPI-M state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra said the core issues the party will be raising in the rally include the “all pervasive” corruption, anarchy, deteriorating law and order situation and attacks on democracy.

“The slogan is ‘Trinamool hatao, Bangla bachao’ (drive away Trinamool, save Bengal) and ‘BJP hatao, desh bachao’ (drive away BJP and save the country),” Mishra said.

“Our movement against Trinamool has been continuing and it will now only be intensified. The agenda of the rally or the plenum includes all core burning issues faced by the people of Bengal. From corruption to anarchy, from attacks on democracy to crimes against women, all have become regular affairs, this is unprecedented,” said Mishra.

To be presided over by former chief minister Buddaheb Bhattacharjee, the December 27 rally will be addressed by CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury, and politburo members Manik Sarkar and Brinda Karat among others.

Asserting the Marxists’ opposition to communal politics, Mishra welcomed the BJP’s move to hold state-wide agitation against the Trinamool over a host of issues.

“It’s a welcome sign that people are democratically fighting against the anarchy and terror tactics of the Trinamool. But as regards to attacks on secularism and communal politics, we are opposed and continue to be so,” added Mishra.
