New Delhi: The strengthening of library infrastructure and facilities is very essential for preservation and dissemination of knowledge and research findings, said Professor Rais-ur-Rahman, Director General, Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) inaugurating a one-day National Conference on Application of Social Media in Innovative Knowledge Services at New Delhi.
In the wake of his recent experience at a WHO meeting, he further said that AYUSH has very great and promising potentials to combat non-communicable diseases, but the global scientific society is very least aware of the fact and advocated the application of social media and information technology to disseminate the knowledge and information.
Prof. Rais-ur-Rahman, along with other dignitaries, also released the souvenir containing 37 research papers to be presented during the technical sessions of the conference jointly organized by the CCRUM and the Society for Information Research and Studies (SIRs).
Earlier, in his introductory remarks, Dr. Khalid M. Siddiqui, Deputy Director General, CCRUM said that library and information professionals play very important role in enabling research and bridging the gap between knowledge resources and researchers. He appreciated the library staff of the CCRUM for recently starting Daily Medical News Alert service through email.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. A. M. Siddiqui, Director, SIRs said that the main objective of the conference was to discuss how social media could improve and complement the functioning of libraries. Mr. Anand Jha of SIRs also addressed the session and elaborated the aims and objectives of the conference as well as his organisation.
Later, at the three technical sessions, a total of 37 papers were presented by researchers, academicians, librarians, information professionals, and students on impact of social media in library services, user expectations, digital marketing in enhancing library services and other important aspects.
Those who attended the conference included Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Dr. Indra Kaul, Dr. N.K. Bar, Prof. Naushad Ali. Besides, researchers and library staff of the CCRUM and over 100 delegates participated in the conference.
Azhar Khan, Assistant Library and Information Officer at CCRUM extended vote of thanks to the dignitaries and participants.
