Man injures boy’s eye in Bihar to take revenge

Patna : A man in Bihar’s Nawada district injured a little boy’s eye, leading to its loss of vision, after the boy’s family failed to pay Rs.10,000 compensation for hurting his son’s eye during play, police said Tuesday.

The incident took place Monday at Gonawa Mushhari in Nawada, about 150 km from here.

Karan Kumar, 5, was first beaten up and one of his eyes was badly damaged after his family failed to pay his neighbour the fine fixed by the panchayat as a compensation for damaging one eye of six-year-old son Munna while playing.

“Karan was called into a room and his one eye was damaged in a typical case of eye for an eye,” police official Sanjeev Kumar Gupta said.

Gupta said a case was lodged against three people, including Munna’s father.

According to Karan’s grandfather Anshuman Manjhi, a panchayat decided that Munna’s family would be paid the compensation.

“But we could not pay his family in time, and Munna’s father deliberately damaged one of Karan’s eyes to take revenge,” he said.

Doctors who examined Karan told his mother Rita Devi that there is little chance that vision could be restored in his damaged eye.
