New Delhi: Welfare Party of India(WPI) has decided to support Aam Admi Party in the coming Delhi assembly election on February 7th.
With not many Muslim-led parties contesting in the Delhi election, choice for Muslim voters is limited to AAP and the Congress.
Social & Democratic Party of India (SDPI) & All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen(AIMIM) have also stayed away from Delhi elections but have so far not endorsed any party.
Peace Party is contesting in only one seat at Babarpur, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) is contesting from Chandni Chowk and Matia Mahal seats.
WPI National President Dr. S. Q. R. Ilyas in a statement said the Welfare Party hopes that Kejriwal-led Aam Admi Party will provide a stable, people-friendly and corruption-free government at Delhi.
“Modi-led BJP government at the centre during the last seven months has been enacting anti-people policies. With little concern for the poor, it has brought in many ordinances to appease corporates and multinationals. The Central government has even put lives of the nation’s citizens at risk by signing the diluted version of the nuclear liability bill. Soon after Modi government assumed power the country has been witnessing communal strife across many states. Places of worships including churches have come under attack in the national capital also. From many of the senior leaders, ministers and MPs of the BJP, religious and communal splintering utterances occur from time to time. The Congress doesn’t seem to be in a position to take on the BJP in Delhi election. It is the duty of all sincere and patriotic citizens of all faiths of Delhi to come forward to check the anti-people policies, corporate-friendly acts and communal splintering approach by supporting the Aam Admi Party by defeating the BJP,” the statement continued.
