One more arrest in Burdwan blast case

Kolkata: A madrassa teacher, said to be a close aide of suspected Burdwan blast mastermind Sheikh Rehmatullah alias Sajjid, has been arrested from West Bengal’s Murshidabad district by the NIA, officials said Wednesday.

Mufazzil Haque, who runs a madrassa in Murshidabad, was arrested from Mukimnagar area Tuesday night for his alleged involvement in recruiting youths for militant group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

National Investigation Agency (NIA) personnel came to know about Haque following the interrogation of four people arrested recently from the state.

The NIA has so far arrested 17 people, mostly Bangladeshis, for the Oct 2 blast that took place at a house in Khagragarh in Burdwan killing two JMB militants and injuring another.

The agency has claimed its investigation so far showed that the militant outfit had established its network in many districts — particularly in Murshidabad, Nadia, Malda, Birbhum and Burdwan in Bengal, Barpeta in Assam, and Sahibganj and Pakur in Jharkhand.

The NIA took over the probe a few days after the explosion.
