Threat to blow up Odisha assembly, CM’s house

Bhubaneswar : Police here received an anonymous letter Thursday that threatened to blow up the Odisha assembly, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence and the state BJP headquarters.

The postcard that landed a day before the start of the assembly budget session prompted police to fortify the state capital in order to prevent any untoward incident during the session.

The postcard was addressed to the chief of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate.

It threatened to blow up the three places with timer bombs, police said.

Director General of Police Sanjiv Marik said all precautions were being taken to protect the purported targets.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Satyabrat Bhoi has been assigned to inquire about the sender and the motive.

Security was tightened in the capital city Thursday.

Thirty platoons of police and two units of the Special Operations Group (SOG) were deployed at strategic points.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Patnaik Thursday launched a CCTV surveillance project in the city.

A total of 114 CCTV cameras have been installed at 28 locations in the first phase, while the entire project covering 90 locations will have more than 350 cameras.
