No Swine Flu epidemic, says AMU

Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University has clarified that only one case of suspected Swine Flu has so far been reported and the deceased girl student of the Women’s College might possibly have been infected with the dreaded disease during an excursion tour to some South Indian parts.

As a precautionary measure, all resident members of Abdullah Hall, who showed symptoms of cough and throat complications have been segregated and kept under strict vigil of doctors.

AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah met the girls at the University Health Service and assured them that they have been put in isolation just as a precautionary measure and will be released after their complete check-up has been made. He said that, as a preventive step, classes in Women’s College have been suspended for five days till February 18, 2015, to help quarantine any possible threat of the dreaded flu.

The University administration has reiterated that there is no threat of any Swine Flu epidemic although precautionary measures are being taken to help restore confidence in the students.

Meanwhile, all educational tours, field trips and training programmes, which have been permitted earlier, have been cancelled by the Vice Chancellor as a precautionary measure to deter spread of Swine Flu.

In a notification issued today, the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Mr. Nafees A. Farooqui has requested all heads of departments and offices not to send any proposal for such tours or field trips.

On the other hand, a condolence meeting was held at the Women’s College to mourn the sad demise of Rushda Pervez, a student of final year graduation course. Addressing the students and staff gathered to pay tribute to the departed soul, Prof. (Mrs.) Iffat Ara, Principal, Women’s College remembered Rushda as a kind and generous person. She expressed a deep sense of sorrow and solidarity to the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, in view of a suspected case of Swine Flu, the Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University has ordered that classes in Women’s College and University maintained schools shall remain suspended till February 18, 2015 only. Other classes in the University shall run as usual.

The University has clarified that a message being circulated in the social media with the signature of the University Registrar regarding closure of the University till March 4, 2015 is totally false and the document being circulated is forged.
