Hyderabad : The government of Telangana Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with US-based PhotonIC Corporation to develop photonics valley.
They agreed to collaborate in setting-up an ecosystem to facilitate the institutionalization of all processes and concepts related to photonics.
They will also evolve, test and produce the next generation chips and products by using the technology of silicon photonics and compound semi-conductor photonics, said a statement from the chief minister’s office.
Both the state government and PhotonIC agreed to work in tandem in evolving a strategy to promote photonics in Hyderabad.
The MoU will be followed by a more detailed agreement specifying the roles and responsibilities for both within 90 days of completion of feasibility report to be prepared by PhotonIC.
Haripreet Singh, secretary, information technology, and Birendra Raj Dutt, CEO and CTO, PhotonIC Corporation signed the MoU in the presence of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao.
PhotonIC, which has an expertise in photonics, is executing various projects for the US military including defense advanced research projects and naval air systems command.
The company has evolved state of the art technology which encompasses development and operation of design, modeling and testing capabilities in support of standard and novel processing technology for commercial prototyping of photonic integrated circuits and related devices.
