“The entire society is obliged to keep vigil against the attempts to hamper the tradition of the country. It is the need of the hour to raise the public conscious against the extremist fold, which is emerging as a threat against the co-existence of the country,” Basheer said.
The reluctance of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to initiate action against violence against the minorities also came under heavy criticism. “Despite a slew of assaults reported against the minorities across the country, Modi along with the ministers concerned remained tight lipped. This dangerous silence poses threat to the existence of the country and giving temptations to the miscreants of the Hindutva fold,” Basheer said.
He wondered how the Prime Minister of a country, which boasts of the secular credentials, dared to present the Hindu text to US President Barack Obama.
The Prime Minister was tempted by the false motives of the Hindutva fold, he said, adding, this is how the secular values of the country is falling prey to the hands of the extreme groups.
Author P Surendran, Trissur Bishop Rev Rafael Thattil and Guruvayur Devaswam Board Chandra Mohanan also attended the programme.
