Swine Flu death toll rises to 671 in India

As Swine flu continued unabated, the death toll has reached 671 even as mor and more cases of flu have been reported across the country. With the death toll rising, the number could surpass that of 2013, which had reported 699 deaths.

As reports emerged about shortage of medicines at some places, Drug Controller General of India (DGCI) wrote to over 10,000 chemists across the country to stock Oseltamivir drug but not sell it without prescription, officials said.

Meanwhile, swine flu has created panic in some parts of India, particularly where the winter has dragged on.The worst affected states due to flu are as follows:

Rajasthan- 191 deaths-3302 cases
Gujarat – 167 deaths -2191 cases
Maharashtra – 81 deaths -569 Cases
Madhya Pradesh-79 deaths-352 cases
Telangana – 51 deaths – 1226
Punjab-26 deaths- 70 cases
Haryana-17 deaths-117 cases
Delhi-7 deaths-1670 cases
Tamil Nadu-6 deaths -230 cases
Jammu and Kashmir – 2 deaths – 71 cases
