Islamabad: A prisoner was killed and another injured when four inmates of the district jail in Pakistan’s Gilgit city attempted to escape Friday. Two prisoners managed to flee.
Police said security forces have launched an operation to nab the two inmates who managed to escape, Geo News reported.
Police said the two escaped inmates were involved in the deadly Nanga Parbat attack.
Ten foreign climbers and a Pakistani guide and cook were killed when gunmen wearing the uniforms of the paramilitary Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts stormed into the base camp at Nanga Parbat, one of the world’s highest mountains on June 22, 2013.
The attack was claimed separately by the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Jundullah militant organisations.
Gilgit-Baltistan Home Secretary Sibtain Ahmed has offered a cash reward of Pakistani Rs. 2 million ($19,631) for the arrest of the escapees.
The dead and injured inmates were identified as Bilal and Dilbar respectively.
Ahmed said the two escaped prisoners were Habibur Rehman and Liaquat.
